A Stunning Hike to Innervikselva in Jøkelfjord | Travel in Norway
January 21, 2025If you’re looking for a peaceful yet breathtaking hike in Northern Norway, Innervikselva in Jøkelfjord is an absolute gem. Surrounded by raw Arctic nature, crystal-clear waters, and towering mountains, this hike offers a perfect escape from the noise of daily life. I recently explored this trail and highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates unspoiled landscapes and a bit of adventure away from the masses and traffic noise.
Getting there and parking
The trailhead to Innervikselva is easily accessible if you’re traveling by car. There’s a small parking area nearby, but keep in mind that it’s limited, so arriving early is a good idea, especially during the summer months. The road leading to the parking spot can be a bit rough in places, so drive carefully, especially if it has rained recently.
Check out the exact location for the Saltnes parking lot HERE (Google Maps link). Parking was free of charge in 2024.
The Hike Itself
It took us about 1.5 hours one way to make it to the picnic spot, but bare in mind that we took lots and lots of stops for photos. So I think you can do it much faster if you are in a hurry. But I always like to spend as much time as I can in these kind of places. There’s just something so peaceful and fulfilling in just being in uninterrupted nature.
I think it is important to mention, that you cannot actually access the glacier from this trail. It is probably possible to go closer by boat or a sup board, but the walking trail stops at the picnic table. But you still get a pretty awesome view.
A Few Important Tips
- Check the Weather – The Arctic climate can change rapidly, and rain can make the trail slippery. Always check the forecast before heading out.
- Footwear Matters – Good hiking boots with grip are highly recommended. The path can get muddy and uneven in some spots.
- Bring Layers – Even on sunny days, temperatures can drop quickly, so dressing in layers is key. We also brought an umbrella and raincoats, and in the end we actually needed them, when it started to pour down in the last 15 minutes of our hike.
- Bring Food and Water – It is a perfect spot to have a picnic after a long walk and you need energy for the way back.
- Respect Nature – As always, leave no trace and respect the pristine environment.

Just take your time, be mindful of the trail conditions, and enjoy the tranquility of Northern Norway.
